Claire speaks French, German and English, is twenty-six, and lives in De Pijp. She is observant in a practical way: a suitcase still zipped tells her the guest leaves at dawn, a jacket over the chair says they have only just checked in. Rooms near the runways are well insulated and easy to darken, and she likes them that way. Her sessions are measured, attentive and never hurried by the clock on the television.
